What IDS Coding & Technology Lessons Are

IDS provides individualized Coding & Technology instruction. The instruction is the service, and learner-centered teaching describes how each lesson is delivered.

  • One-on-one

    Lessons are primarily one-on-one.

  • 60 minutes

    The standard lesson duration is 60 minutes.

  • Typically weekly

    Frequency may vary based on the learner, family schedule, and applicable funding authorization.

  • In person or remote

    Both in-person and remote Coding & Technology Lessons are available.

Previous coding experience is not required. Foundational computer and digital skills are part of the service and can be an appropriate place to begin.

Depending on the learner and project, lessons may explore different tools, computer skills, and ways of creating with technology.

Creative Technology

  • Interest-driven technology projects
  • Projects matched to the learner's starting point
  • Projects that can expand with interests and experience

The lesson adapts to the learner, not the other way around.

Individualization happens through practical teaching choices.

  • Start with a learner's game idea, technology interest, or desired project.
  • Select an appropriate starting point.
  • Adjust the pace or size of a project step.
  • Change the order or length of activities.
  • Use demonstration, spoken explanation, visual material, or another appropriate format.
  • Change a teaching strategy when something is not working.

Different Learners Can Begin in Different Places

Previous coding experience is not required.

Basic computer familiarity can be helpful, but lack of computer fluency does not automatically exclude a learner.

This is a possible progression, not a required curriculum or guaranteed sequence. IDS does not use an arbitrary minimum age. Fit and starting point are considered individually based on the learner's interests, current skills, project ideas, and the practical requirements of the activity. More advanced projects may require prerequisite skills.

Practical Setup for In-Person and Remote Lessons

Remote lessons generally require access to an appropriate computer and reliable internet. Practical needs depend on the lesson format and project.

Families can contact IDS before purchasing equipment or software. IDS prefers practical, free, or existing resources when appropriate and does not promise hardware, internet service, funding, or loaner equipment.

Educational Coding & Technology instruction

IDS provides educational, non-medical, and non-clinical Coding & Technology instruction. Foundational computer and digital skills are part of this educational service.
